Assassin's Creed 3 Kills Historical Figures with Textbook Precision

Ubisoft's upcoming video game Assassin's Creed 3 has a knack for detail and accuracy, mixed with a bit of creative liberties.

The Assassin's Creed franchise is centered on an assassin who kills public figureheads throughout various time in history.  Ubisoft's latest title  places protagonist Connor within the American Revolution.  Historical figures are cut down one by one as Connor weaves through historically accurate campaigns and scenarios.

The developers at Ubisoft based each assassinated victim off of a real person in historical times.  Challenges arose for the Assassin's Creed 3 team as many of the figures from the American Revolution did not die during that period of time.  That meant Ubisoft had to work with a number of lesser known names in order to maintain its tradition of accurately portraying killed victims in the series.

"We have a rule: Everyone dies in the right year, at the right place. They have to be real people. We don't get enough mileage out of it, I think it's kind of magical, and yet no one knows. I don't know how we make it more obvious," said creative director Alex Hutchinson in an interview with PA Report.

Though the game cannot be 100 percent accurate with a non fictional character roaming around slaughtering British troops, Ubisoft does its best to capture as much authenticity as possible with the Assassin's Creed titles.  One example is a cameo appearance by one of the United States Founding Fathers, Benjamin Franklin.  Though he will not play a vital role in the game, Franklin is one example of Ubisoft's mix of historical content and entertainment.

"So we got him in a little bit, we went with the more unusual sides of him. Like his love of women," said Hutchinson.

Franklin will be sharing his love of women with users playing the game.

"He said that women dry out, but they dry out from the top down, and therefore the bits that you need never dry out. I know we're going to get [complaints], but this is all public record," added Hutchinson.

Ubisoft also announced that Assassin's Creed 3 has surpassed their previous pre order record in just three weeks.  Preordered games was the highest in the company's history, outdoing their previous title "Assassin's Creed Brotherhood" back in 2010.

Assassin's Creed 3 will be the series' fifth installment.  The game will be available on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and PC with a scheduled release date on Oct. 30.
