Toyota introduces Nintendo DS-controlled navigation system

Toyota has taken their GPS system to an entirely new level, by introducing Japan with the Nintendo DS-controlled navigation system, called the "Kuruma de DS".

Kuruma de DS, which translates to "Use the DS in the car," allows passengers to enter a destination into the vehicle's navigation system and take control, essentially.

The interface displays a map, sightseeing information and also Nintendo Mii characters. The system is said to require a game card that is Bluetooth enabled for DS, and once the card if paired with the vehicle, the DS is all set for use as a remote control.

Of course, something like this isn't being sold at a cheap price. With Toyota's required Smart Navi setting, you're looking at the U.S. equivalent of $2,586, according to tgdaily.com. Moreover, the required game card must be purchased through Toyota dealers at a cost of $92. Assuming you have a Nintendo DS already, you're all set there; if not, that's a couple hundred dollars more right there.

The Kuruma de DS might not be as revolutionary to most, but all-in-all; it seems like a pretty handy device...for passengers, not drivers, of course.
