The Onion Ring and Half-Life 3

The cult of Half-Life is something akin to the World of Warcraft die-hards, but amped up way past 11 when it comes to the mythical third installment of the franchise. Granted, people just want to know when "Half-Life 2: Episode Three" could even have a projected release date, the third Half-Life being announced could cause a collapse of the Internet.

Game Informer seems convinced the resurgance of an onion ring hearlds news from Valve.

Instead, the questionable fried treat appeared on Reddit, which is notorious for karma whores and young women trying to get favor from the Internet. This is four months after another onion ring was posted to Reddit. No one but Gabe Newell at Valve seems to know the fate of anything Half-Life related.

Forbes points out in the five years since Half Life 2: Episode Two came out, we've had " a sequel to Portal, and even a very quick one to Left 4 Dead. But Half-Life? Not so much as a peep, despite thousands of fan emails to Valve head Gabe Newell." There's even been a Steam community created, with 60,000+ members and rising, to get any news from Valve. Even protesters receive pizza and quietly disperse, as if the magic unknowing shrug of Gabe is enough to quell them.

It's gotten so bad that the Internet has taken to crafting elaborate fat jokes about what we could expect at e3, which of course didn't happen. But it comes down to this: is the onion ring an elaborate marketing ploy by Valve, the folks who made us realzie cakes are a lie and that the pills are indeed here?

At least we know DOTA 2 will be at e3, which is comforting to almost none of the HL3 fanatics.
