Ten Popular Games by Activision: #5

Activision has released some very notable franchises/games over the years and so I thought, why not do a run-through of ten video games that we all have heard a lot about and/or have played a few dozen times?

We've finally reached the final 5 nominees. I won't say "top 5" mainly because I don't want to get that technical. (#1 may just be an exception... but we'll get to that later!) So, to refresh your memory; let's have a brief overview of the five previous games shall we?

#10: "Crash Bandicoot" series

Starting out with an all-time classic, this series has been around for quite some time. However, in 2008, Activision took over as publisher introducing the franchise to wireless platforms.

#9: "Spyro the Dragon" series

Activision took over as publisher in 2008, and the series has sold more than 20 million units worldwide.

#8: "Marvel: Ultimate Alliance" series

Players are able to become a superhero and test out the abilities of Spiderman, Wolverine, Thor, and even Captain America in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance (2006) and its sequel (September 2009).

#7: "X-Men" series

After Activision presented X-Men: Mutant Academy, for Game Boy Color and PlayStation on July 6, 2000, gamers just couldn't get enough.

#6: "James Bond" series

Bond, James Bond, is a pretty popular guy, especially in the movies. So, Activision made a smart move in May 2006 and acquired non-exclusive rights to publish James Bond games. One year later, the rights became exclusive.

Now, onward to # 5...

#5 "Prototype" series

Shapeshifting... incredible physical strength... endless powers... let's admit it: Alex Mercer is pretty awesome.

Prototype is an action-adventure open world game that was released in North America on June 9, 2009. The game is set in New York City, where an infectious plague known as the Blacklight is spreading throughout Manhattan.

Its sequel, Prototype 2, was released on April 24, 2012 and features a new protagonist, James Heller. Following attempted suicide over the dismay of his wife and daughter's murder, Heller is infected by Mercer with his variant of the virus. And thus, Heller's need for vengeance begins. Gamers still get to see a lot of familiar powers, like shapeshifting, but Prototype 2 provides many new features like, the sonar sense and tendrils that sprout from Heller's arm for more power.

In April of 2012, Prototype 2 became the top seller, beating Kinect Star Wars and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

The series are available for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms.
