iPhone 5 Release Date Rumors: Bigger Screen - To Be or Not to Be?

In the past few days, a lot of information has "leaked," having us believe that the next model iPhone will have a larger screen. But CEO Tim Cook has seemingly denied this rumor, saying that Apple is "not fragmented. We have one App Store. We have one phone with one screen size, one resolution. So it's pretty simple if you're a developer."

However, Bloomberg reported that "Apple co-founder Steve Jobs had worked closely on the redesigned phone before his death in October," and that they would be moving towards a larger screen in the face of pressure from Android manufacturers. It would be very odd to see CEO Tim Cook go against that now, especially with so much information pointing to a larger screen. This would also mean that not only is Cook ignoring a man who inspired him to leave Compaq 5 minutes into their first meeting, but also reports as to what the ideal screen size would be for a smartphone.

A bloomberg report noted that...
"a display size between 3.5- to 4-inch is ideal for controlling the touchscreen display with one's thumb while still palming the phone in one hand. Anything larger would eliminate the convenience and functionality of ease of one-handed operations and would require a user to hold the phone in one hand and manipulate it with the other hand. Previous reports noted that a display size between 3.5- to 4-inch is ideal for controlling the touchscreen display with one's thumb while still palming the phone in one hand. Anything larger would eliminate the convenience and functionality of ease of one-handed operations and would require a user to hold the phone in one hand and manipulate it with the other hand."

While Cook didn't address any specifics as to what we can expect to hear about the new iPhone, he has promised that Apple would "double down on secrecy." We'll have to wait for Apple's June 11th WWDC to find out more...
