Football Manager Classic Features Comparison: How The High-End Tablet Version Stacks Up Against The Mobile & PC Games

Football Manager Classic was released as its own mode in Football Manager 2013, a somewhat stripped down and streamlined version of the game for more simple play. The mode is now a full-fledged game for high-end tablets, falling somewhere in the middle of the full PC version and Football Manager Handheld for smartphones.

Eastside Hockey Manager Update Improves AI And Menus

Sports Interactive announced and released the title this week, compatible with a range of iPads and Android tablet models. It's deeper and more packed than the mobile version, with a full 3D match engine made possible by the superior hardware of high-end tablets, but is less time-consuming than the PC game. Below are the features in Football Manager Classic, and how it's a step up over the handheld game.

Match Engine

The handheld version offers only a simple, 2D match engine with players represented by dots on a map. Football Manager Classic will offer a legitimate 3D match engine with player models, much like the PC version. It won't be as powerful, but any player will appreciate the difference between real players on a pitch and a 2D depiction of one. This means full, better AI as well as the improved visuals.

League and Player Database

The tablet game can simply support a larger player and club base than the mobile version--Football Manager Classic boasts 51 nations and 139 leagues, as opposed to just 14 nations and 35 leagues on mobile. There is also a player database of approximately 150,000, a huge bump up over the 30,000 in Football Manager Handheld.

Full Touch Menus, Player Training

Football Manager Handheld has pared-down menus, with overall less options and more general selections. It makes sense on smartphones, but Football Manager Classic bumps the options back toward PC levels. Everything is touch compatible, and fans will instantly spot the difference. This includes the return of full player training options for setting training types and schedules, which are absent from the mobile game.
