Three New Sega 3D Classic Series Games Coming To 3DS: Sonic 2, Gunstar Heroes And Streets Of Rage 2

New Sega 3D Classic Series Titles Announced For Summer: Sonic 2, Gunstar Heroes And Streets Of Rage 2

Sega has announced today that three more of its titles will be heading to its one-time competitor Nintendo as the second batch of the Sega 3D Classic Series which is giving many popular games a 3D makeover onto the Nintendo 3DS.

Hoopa Unbound Will Reshape The World In Pokemon Alpha Sapphire And Omega Ruby

Starting this summer, players will get to relive the remastered glory with 3D Streets of Rage 2 (July), 3D Gunstar Heroes (August) and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (September).

"Just like the previously released arcade classics, each game in the series delivers a full-fledged re-mastered vintage experience, stunning 3D visuals and optimized for the platform. All games in the series will include brand new modes and features, letting you play the game how you remember it but also in an entirely new way."

Kratos Will Battle Shovel Knight On The PlayStation, As God (of War) Intended

As 'that' kid in the neighborhood who grew up with the Sega consoles, any rerelease gets me excited. Streets of Rage 2 is still one of my all-time favorite brawlers (think Double Dragon mixed with Golden Axe).

Gunstar Heroes was a run 'n' gun Genesis title from 1993 that also appeared on my beloved Game Gear. It was cartoony, over the top, like some sort of weird love child between the gameplay of Contra and the art style of Street Fighter 2, and is currently available on both Xbox Live and PSN. We look forward to seeing what they'll bring to the table in terms of new content.

And of course, Sonic the Hedgehog 2. You may be able to pick it up almost everywhere, but this was the Genesis title that proved that Sega was a force to be reckoned with (at least at the time) and showed that the first game wasn't just some flash in the pan, one-hit wonder. Sadly, time has not been kind to Sonic and Tails, but we need to remind ourselves that there was a time when our blue friend went toe-to-toe with Mario himself, and nearly won.

For those wishing to grab more Sega 3D Classics, you can head over to the eShop now. The next instalments are: 3D Fantasy Zone which is out on Thursday, April 16 and 3D Thunder Blade on May 14, 2015.
