'Project CARS' Releases Today On PS4 & Xbox One In North America, Now Available On All Platforms

Community-supported racing sim Project CARS is now available on all platforms, launching today on PS4 and Xbox One in North America.

The title released last week on PC via Steam (its PC retail version joins the console editions today), and now the gorgeous visuals and realistic racing have come to current generation console owners. The game has fared well with critics if not spectacularly, and seems like a definite consideration for fans of the genre.

I stress that last part because even those who enjoy more arcade racing experiences--games that let you bounce off other vehicles and walls at speed, are not harsh on turns, etc--might be turned off by controls that require more mastery and nuance. For those that are looking for that experience, Project CARS delivers across 100 unique tracks, with multiple vehicle types.

The title was supported and in part created by the fans--CARS stands for Community Assisted Racing Sim. The community supported the game in lieu of a traditional publisher, allowing the developers to work on the game over several years with their help (Bandai Namco is now on board, presumably to help distribute the game). Fans were able to purchase Tool Packs that allowed roles in development such as Q&A, content creation, and more. Even better, qualified members will get a share of profits generated within the first three years for their role in getting the title off the ground. The developers are very grateful for the support:
