Facebook Apologizes To Users Around The World For Safety Check Bug

Tech giant company Facebook apologized to the users around the world who have received notification known as Safety Check asking them if they've been affected by the terrorist attack that occurred in Lahore, Pakistan.

The notification has been activated after Lahore was reported bombed by a group of terrorist, Facebook activated the Safety Check, and the Facebook users will receive a notification in their language, "It looks like you're in the area affected by The Explosion." The notification is asking users "Reply SAFE if you're OK."

Users who had linked their social media account to their mobile also received the same notification. Some users shared screenshot image of Safety Check notification on thir rival social media Twitter, ABC reported. Also, some mobile users received text message which reads, "Have you been affected by the explosion?" The message did not even mention where the bombing held.

Some users were not happy. Jamila Rizvi tweeted she's not staying in Pakistan and added, "thanks for asking/scaring everyone."

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the apology on behalf of his company on his official Facebook account. "Unfortunately, many people not affected by the crisis received a notification," the post said. "This kind of bug is counter to our intent. We worked quickly to resolve the issue and we apologise to anyone who mistakenly received the notification." This is not the first time that Safety Check received criticisms. Last year, Security Safety was lambasted because it was activated for the terror attacks in Paris but not bombings in Beirut.
