Nintendo NX News Release: Console Poised as a Fresh Way of Playing, Launch Expected in September

Finally, some real Nintendo NX news graces its community of prospects. As it turns out, the mysterious, next-generation platform, long the subject of countless speculations, will be an entirely different way of gaming. Forget everything you assume, because it is not replacing the Japanese company's current platforms, such as the Wii U and the 3DS.

The information comes straight from Nintendo's president Tatsumi Kimishima, who points that the NX may even outperform the Wii U. Speaking to Asahi Shimbun, he confirms, "The NX is neither the successor to the Wii U nor to the 3DS. It's a new way of playing games, which I think will have a larger impact than the Wii U, but I don't feel it's a pure replacement for the Wii U."

"It's something very new. The hardware, the software lineup, all of it is something I'd like to play for the first time myself," Kimishima says. In addition, he reveals that the platform's final pricing will be affected by two conflicting ideas. While he recognizes the efforts developers put in crafting consoles, he remains grounded at the thought that Nintendo can't "sell at a loss."

At this point, the NX is believed to appear at the Tokyo Game Show in September, Game Rant notes. Allegedly, it launches alongside Sony's PlayStation 4.5, which makes things even more exciting. We know for a fact that the NX isn't showing in this year's E3, which makes this speculation possible. Still, it is tempting to think that the new Nintendo platform will be revealed on a grander scale, considering the hype it has built since its announcement last year.

As per IGN, rumors over the NX peg a console that prefers cartridges over discs, as well as console unit-handheld connectivity. Word on the grapevine goes on.

Nevertheless, we know for a fact that the NX is slated for a March 2017 release. A September 2016 outing means Kimishima and his team will have at least 6 months of sustaining interest.
