Microsoft Surface Phone Release Date & Price: How Windows Phone's Specs Could Beat the Odds [Rumors]

Consumers are excited to behold the smartphone that packs the best Surface features we've known so far. While details of its specs and features are everywhere, one problem remains to date: Microsoft has not confirmed such details.

As it turns out, some are even confident that the Redmond tech giant will ditch its phone ambitions once and for all. Max Slater-Robins of WinBeta.org speculates that the company will most likely concentrate on Windows 10 and the remaining top-tier Lumia phones, such as the 950 lineup. Citing a recent deal, the author is convinced that Microsoft's full commitment to Windows phones suggests otherwise.

The long-awaited Surface Phone is set to appear in April 2017, Daniel Rubino of Windows Central says in an earlier article. Microsoft is reportedly waiting for the completion of Windows 10 Redstone 2, which is expected to bring new mobile features. According to the author, he was told that "both Redstone 2 and Redstone 3 are going to be heavily focused on 'innovation around mobile phones.'"

On the other hand, there are speculations that peg other launch timelines. As per Mobile Choice, leaks and rumors suggest that the Surface Phone will arrive at the Berlin-based IFA, which happens in September.

In terms of pricing, no specific tag has been consistent at this point, though most get into a consensus that the Surface Phone will retail expensively. Pocket-lint, for instance, expects a cost that matches "high-end and super premium with a quality build, top specs."

To date, the rumored Surface Phone is purported to pack 5.5-inch, QHD AMOLED screen, Intel Atom x3 (SoFIA) 64-bit processor, 4GB of RAM, 21 and 8MP PureView cameras and at least 64GB of internal storage. Previously, Forbes noted a leak which suggested that the Surface Phone might pack Qualcomm's Snapdragon 830, which can be supported by 8GB of RAM and Samsung's 10nm production process.

In terms of design, reports indicate the Surface Phone will come in an aluminum and magnesium unibody, PC-Tablet cites. The outlet says such will fit Microsoft's current aesthetic for Surface tablets.
