Android N Release Updates, Multi-Window Mode, Google Assistant & Other Nifty Changes We're Expecting

Talks about the upcoming Android N are already circulating after the Google I/O conference. Users and experts are already speculating what "N" will stand for, as well as the features that the new operating system will arrive with.

In the meantime, users are invited to suggest their own "N" names at android.com/n. Traditionally, Google has been naming its operating systems after desserts, such as the Android Lollipop and Android Marshmallow. The next version is expected to follow the same format.

USA Today reported that Android N will come with a split screen mode, simpler multitasking, more interactive notifications, longer battery life, more efficient apps, and security adjustments. The split screen mode allows users to run two apps simultaneously, either side by side or stacking one over the other.

The simpler multitasking feature will let users switch from one app to another in a more convenient manner. Tapping the recent-apps button will present a list of every app that the user opened in recent history. However, Android N will automatically remove apps that have not been used for some time. Tapping the recent-apps button twice will bring users to the last app they opened.

Android N will allow users to continue full conversations within the notification view. Aside from the message preview, Android N will add a reply button. Android N will expand the function of the power-saving Doze feature, thereby helping users enjoy longer battery life. There will be more efficient apps in Android N, which includes a reworked code that will reduce the time needed for apps to install and their storage requirements. There will also be a new Data Saver option that will limit an app's consumption of wireless data.

Android N will feature security tweaks that will offer added protection by providing more limited access to the system. Android security updates will download and install in the background. Restarting the mobile device to complete the installation process will not take long. There are Instant Apps that do not require downloading and installation.

CNet noted that Android N will have a new Google Assistant software that will allows users to engage with a more streamlined dialogue with the device.

The manufacturer or wireless carrier will be responsible for shipping the Android N update to users as soon as it become available. The list of devices that will receive the update will be showcased soon.

Android N is set to launch in summer 2016. More updates and details are expected soon.
