Asus Zenbook 3 The MacBook Killer? Flagship Model Is Thinner, Faster, Lighter

The ASUS Zenbook 3 was recently unveiled at Computex 2016, together with a variety of other state-of-the-art products. With a lighter, slimmer and faster form, the ASUS Zenbook 3 is set to contend with the MacBook soon.

Jonney Shih, chairman of ASUS, was at the Zenvolution press event at Computex 2016 to introduce the Zenbook 3, a very sleek and lightweight notebook. Other PCs were also showcased, namely the ASUS Transformer 3, ASUS Transformer 3 Pro and ASUS Transformer Mini, among others. The company will release some of the most versatile PC and laptops in the world that offers expandability, convenience and mobility.

The new ZenBook 3 is dubbed as the most prestigious laptop in the world with unprecedented performance. The next-generation laptop was fully redesigned, presenting a beautiful and ultra-sleek chassis, measuring 11.9mm. The product weighs 910 grams only.

The ZenBook 3 was created using aerospace-grade aluminum alloy, a top quality material which is 50% stronger compared to standard alloy that is used in most current laptops. The special aluminum alloy also allows the ASUS ZenBook 3 to be extremely light and tough at the same time. The material further has a spun-metal finish and comes in three unique colors, namely Royal Blue, Quartz Grey and Rose Gold, giving the laptop a very elegant appearance. The anodizing process went through two special phases to achieve majestic golden highlights and diamond-cut edges.

The Verge wrote that in terms of specifications, the ASUS ZenBook 3 houses an Intel Core i7 processor, up to 1TB PCIe Gen 3 x4 SSD, 16GB of 2133MHz RAM, a high-resolution 12.5-inch display, a next-generation USB Type-C port and a Harman Kardon quad-speaker audio. The screen features a wide 72% NTSC color gamut, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4 from edge-to-edge. The laptop also has a slim bezel design that gives an 82% screen-to-body ratio to achieve maximum display size with the minimum footprint.

The ZenBook 3 has an advanced cooling system, which includes the thinnest fan design in the world, measuring only 3mm. The laptop also has a full-size backlit keyboard with a key pitch of 19.8mm and a key travel of 0.8mm. The touchpad is covered with glass with palm-rejection technology, handwriting support and Smart Gestures. There is an integrated fingerprint reader with Windows Hello support of quick single-touch access.

The next-generation laptop has a battery life of up to 9 hours, as well as fast-charge technology that brings it up to 60% capacity in a mere 49 minutes. The ZenBook 3 is priced at $1,999.

The ASUS ZenBook 3 and other all-new ASUS products and accessories are currently on display at the ASUS showroom at the Nangang Exhibition Hall at Taipei World Center. More updates and details are expected soon.
