Let's face it, in 2016, a flagship spec'd device with only 16GB of storage is unheard of. As a matter of fact, there should never be a flagship device at this day and age with 16GB unexpandable storage.
Luckily, it seems Apple is finally ready to listen to its fan base and critics about its past phones lack of ample storage and small battery capacity. As stated by chinese analyst Kevin Wang in a post he made a post on Weibo, the new iPhone 7 will have 32GB of internal memory and 2GB of ram for the base model.

With the iPhone 6S, you can only shoot more or less 45 minutes of 4k video before your storage runs out. For so long, it's been a hassle to manage our photos, videos and music with only 16GB play around with.
Let's just hope all these rumour are true. Back in 2015, the same news was made for the iPhone 6S. It might also have an effect on the pricing of the base model.
