Asus Transformer 3 Release Date, Price & Specs: Is This Better Than The Surface Pro? Things You Should Know

Asus needs no introduction as far as offering technology solutions, normally focusing on the PC and notebook segments. With the unveiling of the Asus Transformers 3, the company embarks on a new segment as it tries to cater to the growing mobile computing segment.

The Asus Transformer 3 was recently introduced at the Zenvolution press event at Computex 2016 where the company is seen as targeting Microsoft and its Surface Pro 4 device. The two devices share a fairly similar make in terms of build and design with the variances constrained to the internals specs and pricing standpoint.

The Asus Transformer 3 sports a 12.6-inch display (2,880x1920 pixels) while the Surface Pro 4 offers a slightly smaller 12.3-inch display (2,736x1824 pixels). With slightly larger display, Asus seems to have a better rendering display with the slightly higher pixel count though it still falls on which tablet renders better or smoother.

Comparing the base models

The basic model of the Asus Transformer 3 will be the one armed with an Intel Core i5, 4 GB of RAM and 256 GB SSD with an SRP of $999. This is the variant that seems to have been designed to compete with the Surface Pro 4 model armed with an Intel Core M3 CPU, 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of SSD priced at $899.

Pairing up the two basic tablet models, the Asus Transformer 3 offers a bit more in terms of SoC and SSD storage, likely the reason why it was priced $100 more than the Surface Pro 4 basic model.

The High-Ends in retrospect

The Asus Transformer 3’s high-end model will offer consumers a tablet featuring an Intel Core i7 processor, 16 GB of RAM and 1 TBB of SSD space. This variant comes with a fingerprint scanner located at the corner of the touchpad that is priced at about $1,999.

The Surface Pro 4’s top model on the other hand comes with an Intel Core i7 chipset, 8 GB of RAM, and 256 GB of storage for $2,000.

Expectedly, Asus tries to shake things up a bit with its slight bumps in the features section. Seeing how Microsoft has carved a niche out of this segment as of to date, it will be interesting if Asus can move up with the Asus Transformer 3.
