Microsoft Acquisition of LinkedIn Will See Layoffs [VIDEO]

The top story recently has to do with Microsoft’s acquisition of professional social platform LinkedIn for a whopping $26.2 million. Knowing that these deals would come with eventual repercussions, the transition will see some LinkedIn employees staying on while others likely to be let go.

Among the people who will stay on is Jeff Weiner who will stay on as CEO for LinkedIn per CNBC. He will however now be reporting to Microsoft SEO Satya Nadella though the deal is pending until shareholders and regulators give their approval.

Nadella bared that the acquisition aims to accelerate the growth of LinkedIn together with Microsoft’s product like Office 365 and Dynamics as they aim to ramp up empowerment for individuals and organizations.

Weiner addressed LinkedIn employees on the deal and mentioned that there will be minimal changes happening moving forward. Unfortunately the fate of employees who were involved in maintaining LinkedIn’s status as a publicly traded company is not included.

For Microsoft, the deal should place them in a better standing on the social media front. Inheriting a social platform which houses professionals makes a lot of sense with their products likely to come in handy as well.

"Microsoft is aiming to get a social media strategy and it wants to further position itself as … the business expert of social media," Felton said via CRN.com.

The acquisition is seen as a positive one for Microsoft, something that opens new doors particularly for the business professionals. It radiates possibilities that include connecting the professionals with wider scope, possibly improving on what SharePoint has been unable to do.

That includes contact management and content publishing which will gain largely from an expected integration with Microsoft’s Office technologies.

Once everything has been ironed out, the deal is expected to catapult the software giant into the B2B marketing and advertising data authority for programmatic content aimed at professionals as emphasized on Forbes.com.
