'Overwatch' Patch Lessens McCree, Widowmaker’s Damage, Blizzard Mulls Adding New Heroes

'Overwatch' Patch Lessens McCree, Widowmaker’s Damage, Blizzard Mulls Adding New Heroes

Blizzard recently introduced a patch to its popular "Overwatch" game which is said to balance the game's 21 available heroes. In particular, two characters that have become a favorite among players lately, McCree and Widowmaker, are targeted for the new "Overwatch" update.

At the moment, the character balancing only affects "Overwatch's" PC platform but the console platform are said to be next. The balancing is Blizzard's response to concerns by gamers that McCree and Widowmaker's abilities are a bit overpowered compared to others. As a result, most players usually choose either of these two, making the other "Overwatch" characters underutilized.

McCree - Damage Powerful Enough To Take Down "Overwatch" Tanks

Apparently, players are complaining that the "Overwatch" character is a bit too powerful. Specifically, McCree's regular alternate fire mode is so powerful that even the toughest of "Overwatch" tanks is no match for its destructive power, reports We Got This Covered.

The new patch from Blizzard should address this unbalance. While McCree's recovery time has been reduced from 0.75 to 0.3 seconds, his bullet damage was also reduced from a high 70 to 45, a value considered to be more appropriate damage for "Overwatch" standards, according to Kotaku.

This means that McCree will now find it a bit difficult to take down strong "Overwatch" tanks like Reinhardt and Roadhog. However, he should still be lethal against Genji and Tracer.

Widowmaker - "Overwatch" Character's Fire Equally Deadly Head and Body Shots

On the other hand, "Overwatch" players complain that Widowmaker's sniper rifle fire is a bit indiscriminate in terms of damage. Gamers found out that body shots from her rifle seem to be as lethal as head shots.

The new "Overwatch" update now addresses this issue. The patch decreases the base damage from Widowmaker's alternate fire from 15 to 12. However, the character's headshot damage multiplier is increased from 2x to 2.5x.

With these balancing adjustments in place, Widowmaker's body shot damage is weakened to more acceptable levels compared with other "Overwatch" characters. However, she is now slightly more damaging in her head shots. Players who plan to use Widowmaker should hit their enemies in the head to retain her advantage.

New "Overwatch" Characters Planned

In addition, Blizzard is hinting that new characters would soon be introduced in "Overwatch" - Sombra and Liao. Blizzard's Jeff Kaplan confirms that they've purposely placed numerous hints about Sombra.

For now, a lot of speculations are floating regarding the identity of this new "Overwatch" hero. For instance, some players speculate that Sombra could be Pharah's mother.

As for the other rumored new "Overwatch" hero, Liao, little is known about him as well. It seems that for now, Blizzard wants players to do a bit more guessing before finally revealing their identities.

Keep posted for more "Overwatch" heroes and characters updates. In the meantime, watch a trailer for Widowmaker, one of the nerfed "Overwatch" characters.
