Madden NFL '13 Release Date In 8 Days: NFL's Top 10 Defensive Players (Watch Announcement Here)

Madden NFL '13 maker EA Sports continues to release the player ratings by position, and this week it is the top 10 defenders.

A few things I noticed when I was playing the Madden Demo was that the 49ers were stacked on the defensive side of the ball, but I was surprised that Patrick Willis did not have a 99 rating. I definitely figured he would be the number one guy this year, but I was wrong.

I am not surprised that New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis and Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware topped the list of the top 10 defensive players in Madden NFL 13, but I will make the argument that Jared Allen is a bit more important to his defense than those two players.

Another surprise in the this year's top 10 defenders,is the ratings of some of the older players. Naturally, I thought EA would start to bring down the ratings on some of the older superstars. While Ed Reed and Troy Polamalu are arguably the best defensive players of the past seven or so seasons, these two players are on the decline and are often injured. I think they should be rated in the 90s, but not in the high 90s. It is time for some younger player to make the list. This might just be the last year for one or both of these guys.

I am really shocked that neither Jason Pierre-Paul nor Terrell Suggs made the top 10 list in this year's game. JPP was a top five defensive player last season and third in the league with 16.5 sacks. Suggs was the defensive player of the year. Although he is injured, he is expected back at some point this season.

Here is the list of the top 10 Defensive Players...

1. Darrelle Revis, New York Jets: 99 overall

2. DeMarcus Ware, Dallas Cowboys: 99 overall

3. Patrick Willis, San Francisco 49ers: 98 overall

4. Jared Allen, Minnesota Vikings: 98 overall

5. Justin Smith, San Francisco 49ers: 98 overall
