Danielle Brooks On Poussey's Death

The actress who portrayed Tasytee sat down with Variety to talk how she handled the emotional scene in the last episodes of "Orange is the New Black."

Danielle Brooks admitted to director Matthew Weiner that she won't be able to do the tragic death scene for several times. Brooks promised to Weiner that the minute the camera rolls, she will deliver what is expected of her.

They only did the scene twice. The first take was already perfect but the camera was blurry so they had to do it again.

"I was like, 'Are you kidding me'? and so Lauren Morelli, who was the writer on the episode, I remember taking a little walk with her, and kind of just finding it again. She helped me in that moment," Danielle Brooks said.

Being close to Samira Wiley (Poussey) in real life made the scene easier for Danielle Brooks. However, Brooks drew emotions from real-life situations like the death of Eric Garner, Natasha Mckenna and Rekia Boyd, all of whom were key individuals in the movement "Black Lives Matter."

When asked what will happen next in "Orange is the New Black," she said that Taystee is ready to go to war to seek justice for her friend Pousey.
