As reviews have settled for the latest movie from Blizzard Entertainment "Warcraft: The Beginning," statistics show that it has received poor reviews from critics all over the internet. As cited by Forbes, the film only reached a highest review of 24% on Rotten Tomatoes and it only rates 32/100 in IMDB.
Its ratings are even lower than that of DOOM, Dead or Alive and Resident Evil movie franchises. Although despite low ratings from critics, in contrast to all the low ratings it has received from critics; it received great reviews from audiences. Users in IMDB.com rate the movie 7.7/10 and 83% of viewers on Rotten Tomatoes like the movie.
Also, despite the bad reviews from critics, the movie may not be a hit among people within the United States as it is has only generated but it is selling quite well in other countries. Forbes mentions that a movie doesn't need to have a good review to have big revenue. Despite the movie only generating only 24.1 million dollars in its opening weekend, as cited by RollingStone.
In China, it is even competing neck to neck in ticket sales with other global blockbuster movies like "Furious 7" and "The Avengers," which are already expected to sell well. The movie has already accumulated an estimate of anywhere between 70 million to 160 million dollars in revenue from international markets alone and it estimates a 100 million to 150 million dollars in revenue from China within its first few days of release. To add, according to The Guardian, it is already the highest grossing game adaptation of all time with an estimated 380 million in revenue in total.
RollingStone mentions that despite negative critical acclaim, producer Stuart Fenegan said that he made it for the fans." He even mentions that he received many response from fans and they were numerous and positive and to him that is what he values. Perhaps the negative review from critics come from their standpoint of being closed to the structure of the story as English film director, film producer, and screenwriter as Duncan Jones Mentions. Nevertheless, they are happy with the results.
