'Jason Bourne' Release Date, News & Update: Matt Damon Only Has Around 25 Lines In The Movie

After not appearing in 2012's "The Bourne Supremacy," Matt Damon is back in one of the movie franchises that made him a big star: this year's "Jason Bourne." Did you know, though, that Matt Damon will only have around 25 lines of dialogue in the movie, though?

The strangely low line count is mostly because of how the "Bourne" movies are made. According to Vanity Fair, "Jason Bourne" and the rest of the movies in the franchise are made backwards—director Paul Greengrass claims that the movie's release date is set first, and then everything is scheduled from that target date. Pre-production, production, and post-production end up being hurried, and filming might begin without a final script.

According to Greengrass, instead of shooting "Jason Bourne" without a finished script, he decided to rush the scriptwriting process, resulting in a movie with relatively few lines of dialogue for the main character. It also helps considering that Jason Bourne the character is basically a lone wolf at this point, and the movies themselves have really been more about the action.

For his part, Matt Damon was totally on-board with a more physically and emotionally expressive approach to his acting this time around. Interestingly, because Damon is getting paid $25 million to star in "Jason Bourne" (which Universal needed to shell out in order for the movie to be a hit, after "The Bourne Supremacy" did not pull in the best of reviews) it means that for every short line he delivers in it, he is essentially getting paid $1 million.

It's not all easy work, however—Damon also had to work out a lot to play Bourne again, as despite his age (he's 45) he still has to look like an agent. "Jason Bourne" hits theaters next week, on July 29.
