'Overwatch' Hero Mastery: How To Play Each Character Effectively Part 1

'Overwatch' Hero Mastery - How To Play Each Character Effectively Part 1

"Overwatch" is a game about teamwork and adaptability, perhaps even more so than individual skill. That's why it's just as important to be able to switch to the character that is necessary as the situation demands, rather than just focus on being really good at one. Each hero has their own quirks, abilities, and attributes that you need to take into account, and this four-part guide will help you make the most out of them.

Ana

  • Your healing hitbox is much larger than your damage hitbox, so you don't have to aim too well to assist your allies.
  • Use your sleep dart to cancel ults, take supports out of teamfights, and avoid enemies who are chasing you. Remember to call out targets you'll sleep-dart so your team doesn't shoot at them.
  • Always declare who you'll be using your Nano Boost on. If you can't, try to use it on players who are currently attacking, or whose ultimates are active or ready.

Bastion

  • You have the highest damage in the game. Use it to strip away Reinhardt shields, destroy Junkrat Rip-Tires, and kill tanks easily.
  • Positioning is everything. Set up at corners and choke points. Try to keep your large rear headshot area out of the way.
  • Save your Tank Mode for large teamfights, or when you're ambushed. The knockback, high damage, and additional armor you gain all work to make this viable.

D.Va

  • Your Boosters allow you limited flight, letting you swat pesky Pharahs and accompanying Mercies as needed.
  • Defense Matrix works on almost anything, even damage from certain Ultimates, so use it to protect yourself and allies.
  • When your MEKA is destroyed, your pistol deals decent damage at medium range, and it charges your MEKA calldown too. Stay alive and deal damage close to your team.
  • Your Ultimate is best as a crowd control tool. Boost forward and use it on objectives, or lob it by boosting upwards.

Genji

  • You have some of the best mobility in the game. Use double jump, wall running, and Swift Strike to reach places other heroes can't.
  • Deflect can kill Torbjorn's turret and Bastion very easily, and can also send their damage back to their team.
  • While using your ultimate, you're still relatively fragile, so use it when the enemy team is busy, and stay on the move.

Hanzo

  • Your attack hitbox is extremely large, so shoot freely and don't try for too much precision.
  • Sonar Arrow is great for setting up ambushes, or preventing them. It's essential on defense to see if the enemy is flanking.
  • Use your ultimate on objectives and teamfights. Either the enemy team will be disrupted, or they'll be dead.
