Xbox One Release Date, News & Update: Price Down To $249 For The Summer

Good news for those who've always wanted to take the Xbox One plunge but haven't gotten it yet: the 500 GB model of the console is now discounted. Microsoft has a summer sale, with the Xbox One going for $249 for as long as supplies last.

Microsoft is applying the $100 discount to any 500 GB Xbox One model, including those in bundles. This includes "Gears of War: Ultimate Edition," the Special Edition "Quantum Break" bundle, and the Name Your Game bundle, where you can choose among "Forza Motorsport 6," "Rise of the Tomb Raider," "Gears of War: Ultimate Edition," or "Rare Replay," tempting those who've been on the fence about the Xbox One to finally go buy one.

In other good news, the 1 TB Xbox One model is also discounted at GameStop, going for $300 nowThis may be because the PlayStation 4 is still the top-selling console in the States for the third month in a row. But on top of that, hardware sales in general in the US dropped by a lot (a whopping 42 percent, specifically), perhaps because most gamers have already bought new consoles and other hardware.

This is also partly due to Microsoft announcing the new Xbox One S (and releasing it pretty soon, in the S's case) and the Xbox Project Scorpio in this year's E3. The Xbox One S is a slimmer version of the Xbox One (with its own special edition bundles), while the Xbox Project Scorpio is touted by Microsoft as the most powerful console ever made. Among other new features, we know both new consoles have full 4K video capability.

The Xbox One S is releasing next week, while the Scorpio will be coming out in time for the holiday season this year, or early in 2017. We'll have more updates as soon as we get them.
