Tom Clancy's 'The Division' Release Date, News & Update: Jessica Chastain May Star Alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in Upcoming Film

Another Hollywood heavyweight is currently in talks to star in the much anticipated "The Division," the film adaptation of Ubisoft's recently released "Tom Clancy's The Division."

The news about the film adaptation broke out in June, when Ubisoft was reported to be developing a movie based on the video game alongside the actor, who is also serving as a producer. The studio is still in search for a screenwriter for the project, but it seems that it has found is female lead already.

The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reveals that Academy Award nominated actress Jessica Chastain is in talks to star in "The Division" film by Ubisoft. Proving her worth as a female lead in "Zero Dark Thirty" (2012), "Interstellar" (2014), "The Martian" (2015), "Crimson Peak" (2015), and "The Huntsman: Winter's War" (2016), the 39-year old actress is definitely a viable counterpart to Gyllenhaal, who will produce the project alongside Ubisoft's Gerard Guillemot.

Ubisoft's "The Division" will find Gyllenhaal and Chastain's (if she signs on) characters in a dystopian New York City following a smallpox pandemic. Fans of the game already know that the main character is an agent of the Strategic Homeland Division, or "Division" for short. Chastain and Gyllenhaal will most likely be the agents of the organization in the movie, which will be a collaboration between Ubisoft and Red Storm Entertainment.

"The Division" is not the first time Ubisoft is creating a film before marketing it out to studios. In fact, they did the same with "Assassin's Creed," which stars Michael Fassbender and has found a home with Fox. They are also the studio behind "Splinter Cell," which found its way to Paramount Pictures.

If game sales are any indication, it seems that "The Division" may be a massive hit among moviegoers. Variety reports that the game earned as much as $330 million in just a matter of five days from its release in March 8. "Tom Clancy's The Division" is available for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
