'Pokemon Go' News: What Happens After You Reach Level 40?

"Pokemon Go" has a level cap for players at level 40, and most players have wondered what would happen when you finally hit the cap. Do you get a rare Pokemon? A legendary Pokemon that you normally wouldn't be able to catch, maybe? The fabled Master Ball, which can catch any Pokemon automatically?

Well, players won't be so lucky. A "Pokemon Go" player named Luca managed to get to level 40 (although by the use of a bot) and documented his achievement on Reddit. For all his troubles, he just got 40 of the following: Ultra Balls, Max Potions, Max Revives, Razz Berries, as well as four Incenses, Incubators, Lure Modules, and Lucky Eggs. No Master Ball.

Like many MMORPGs, it's still possible that the "Pokemon Go" level cap can still be raised beyond 40. But the reason why Luca had to use a bot to hit the maximum is because he—and most other players—would not be able to get there anytime soon unassisted. GameSpot reports that in order to hit level 40 this quick, a player would have to earn 50,000 XP for a year, and there are only so many actions you can do that get you a lot of XP (hint: there would be a lot of walking involved).

It seems to be a lot easier to catch all the Pokemon available in North America than it would be to get to level 40. Developer Niantic claims that there are a lot of hidden easter eggs left undiscovered in the game, and there is a collective drive toward discovery happening right now. They also have plans of implementing trading Pokemon among players—in fact, it's a feature they want to implement sooner rather than later.

Once we find out how to get a Master Ball in "Pokemon Go," we'll let you know.
