Assassin's Creed 3 Release date: New DLC Has George Washington As King

The next installment in the acclaimed Assassin's Creed franchise is releasing in just under a month and the game's publisher Ubisoft has announced via press release the first announced downloadable content that is coming to the game will feature an alternate reality.

According to a story first reported by video game website IGN, the Assassin's Creed 3 DLC will be set in an alternate reality where America's first President George Washington becomes the tyrannical King of America instead of the country's noble first leader.

The Tyranny of King Washington is a single-player campaign that will be told through multiple downloadable content packs.

"As the revolution comes to a close, a new and most unexpected enemy emerges," Ubisoft explains. "Driven by the desire to secure the fate of the colonies, the greatest hero of the revolution, George Washington, succumbs to the temptation of infinite power. The new King is born and his reign leaves no one untouched. To return freedom to the land our new hero must dethrone a tyrant he once called friend."

The story will unfold through three episodic content packs, all of which will be available to those who purchase the Assassin's Creed III Season Pass, which will be available on, PlayStation 3 and PC for $29.99 or on Xbox 360 for 2400 Microsoft Points.

According to Ubisoft, gamers who purchase the Season Pass will save 25 percent versus purchasing the each one of the DLC packs separately.

"History is our playground - and AC teams have always loved playing with historical facts and their consequences as a way to better understand a time period," said Ubisoft executive producer Sebastien Puel said of the Washington content. "While Assassin's Creed III concentrates on history as it happens, we wanted to take some liberties with this DLC and tell you how things 'could have happened.'"

Assassin's Creed III will be available on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on Oct. 30 in North America and Latin America. The Windows PC version will launch on Nov. 20 and on the Wii U version on Nov. 18. There will also be an Assassin's Creed III Deluxe Edition for Windows PC gamers that will be available for digital download.
