'Pokemon GO' Latest News, Release Date & Update: The Difference Between New Tracking Tool Nearby & Sightings

When Niantic shut down access to "Pokemon GO" by third-party apps, fans and users were up in arms. After all, it made it more difficult to catch these critters and level up. Imagine having to do it the normal way, how boring! It seems that Niantic has heard the collective groan worldwide, as it has released additional features in the latest updates that address users' concerns about tracking their highly coveted Pokemon. Here's the breakdown.

First of all, Niantic has created not one, but two types of trackers for "Pokemon GO." The first is what they call "Sightings," which enables users to determine what Pokemon are currently in his or her immediately area. It's more or less the same thing as the original tracker based on the steps from the previous iteration of the game. The downside to the "Sightings" tracker is that users won't be able to know what direction to go to or how close exactly is the Pokemon they're trying to catch.

According to CNet, the second new tracker for "Pokemon GO" is called the "Nearby" tracker, which shows users a list of Pokemon that are within the area along with the list of Pokestops they are associated with, which users need to travel to, to obtain such available Pokemon. Now, users can tap the Pokemon and the view button to open the map screen that will show the user where the Pokestop is located, in terms of his or her current location. Of course, it will take time for the user to get to a particular Pokestop, so if the Pokemon disappears before then, the app will notify the user that the Pokemon has fled.

In addition to the trackers, Gamerant reports that Niantic has also added some security features that prevents users from playing "Pokemon GO" while driving. Improvements on the accuracy of the curveball trow has also been implemented, as well as bringing back the battery saver mode which many fans were also up in arms about.
