'DOTA 2' Gameplay & Latest Updates: Valve Launches New And 100% Original Hero Named Monkey King

As The International 2016 continues, Valve recently unveiled a new and original hero in "DOTA 2." The new hero, named Monkey King, was introduced after the end of play in TI6.

Monkey King is the first original "DOTA 2" character, which means that he is the first playable character that was not imported from the original "DOTA" or "Defense of the Ancients" mod in the Blizzard game "Warcraft III." With the addition of Monkey King, "DOTA 2" will have 111 playable heroes. Previously 110 out of the 112 heroes are playable in the main "DOTA 2" client.

Polygon noted that Monkey King will appear in "DOTA 2" in fall 2016 when The New Journey update releases. The new characters stats, abilities and role has yet to be announced. The hero is actually inspired by the Chinese hero Sun Wukong, from "Journey to the West," the 16th century epic novel. Before, Valve mentioned that it will begin introducing new heroes after the "DOTA 2" hero roster would match the size of the original "DOTA" lineup.

A brief "DOTA 2" trailer featured the Monkey King in action, swinging through trees and bashing a group of Dire creeps, which hinted that he may be on the Radiant side. He described himself as an animal, a warrior and a trickster. He wielded a scepter and battled the Beastmaster, disappearing in the trees then reappearing out of nowhere to the unassuming enemy. Monkey King added that among all the names that he has been called, his favorite was "King." The agile and fast character was shown using what would most likely be his ultimate ability in the game - multiplying into several versions of himself and dominating all those who crossed his path.

Based on the one-minute video, Monkey King may be an agility-based "DOTA 2" character, with the ability to Blink, Windwalk or use other types of stealth. His ultimate in "DOTA 2" may be the same as in the clip, where he can create several copies of himself, comparable to the Phantom Lancer. It is still uncertain whether the copies would disappear after a certain period of time or are permanent until killed. More updates and details on "DOTA 2" are expected soon.
