DICE Gifts Free Battlefield 1942 For Fans

Battlefield developer DICE has decided to gift fans with a free downloadable original Battlefield 1942. The game is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year.

Players can get the full copy of the game at Origin.

"When we launched Battlefield 1942 ten years ago, we had lofty ambitions to create a first-person shooter that would push the boundaries of innovation, creativity and design," said Karl Magnus Troedsson, vice president and general manager of DICE.

"We evolved the FPS gameplay formula by introducing the world to all-out warfare via land, air and sea. Since the beginning, the reception to the Battlefield series has been incredible thanks to our amazing fans. Every day, we strive to provide our community with great games and new ways to play as evident with Battlefield 3 Premium."

"We wanted to thank our fans who have supported us throughout the years by restoring Battlefield 1942 for a digital re-release and give everyone a chance to play the game that started it all."

Battlefield 1942 , with its innovative approach to online warfare, managed to secure the praise of critics and players both.

The game has received two expansion packs and multiple sequels, including Battlefield 3.

EA stated earlier that Battlefield 3 Premium has currently sold more than 2 million units.

Members who have opted for Battlefield Premium get access to all downloadable content of Battlefield 3 at no extra cost. They also get exclusive in-game items.

Aftermath, Battlefield 3's next downloadable content, will release Nov. 29 on PS3 for Premium members and Dec. 11 for the rest. For Xbox 360 and PC version, it will be out Dec. 4 for Premium members, and Dec. 18 for others.
