‘Overwatch’ Latest News & Update: Game Director Talks Retirement of Heroes; Sombra to Be Introduced After New Eichenwald Map Release?

"Overwatch" developer Blizzard Entertainment has addressed rumors relating to removal of favorite characters from the game down the line. It clarified comments made about certain characters' potential retirement from the multiplayer shooter game.

Game director Jeff Kaplan recently said in an interview that it is possible characters may be removed from "Overwatch" if the game needs balancing and the roster reaches a certain size. However Kaplan, in a follow-up post on the game's forum, urged fans not to spread rumors as the development team had no plans to remove any of the Heroes.

He said that during the interview he simply chose to keep the door open as it is a possibility and not a final confirmation. Kaplan then noted that the "Overwatch" forum thread was making a mountain out of a mole hill.

"We're not even remotely thinking about retiring heroes right now or anytime in the foreseeable future," Kaplan said, reports Express.co.uk. However, the "Overwatch" game director had originally hinted at even retiring Heroes and had said that their business model allows them to do so without feeling bad. Kaplan was referring to giving players everything extra for free.

Other reports suggest that Blizzard is thinking of adding a new character Sombra to "Overwatch" and that it would launch after the release of the new Eichenwald map. The map will contain a Dark Souls secret.

Eichenwald combines escort gameplay and assault and is set in an abandoned castle in Stuttgart, Germany. A team of players needs to escort a battering ram to the castle and the opposing team will have to defend it.

Players will find the Dark Souls Easter Egg in a hidden room opposite the entrance. The small room will have one of Dark Souls' bonfires with a sword sticking out of a pile of ash.

Developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment, "Overwatch" is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows. Stay tuned to GamenGuide for more "Overwatch" news and updates!
