Star Wars Episode 7: Disney Says Director Will Be Named Soon

The man who will lead us on a return journey to a galaxy far, far away, will soon be announced by Disney's Kathy Kennedy, according to Disney studio chairman Alan Horn.

In a recent interview with Vulture, Horn said an announcement regarding the director would be made soon and explained how Disney kept the acquisition of LucasArts a secret.

"We threatened everybody with a blast from the Death Star!" Horn jokingly told Vulture. "But really, I think everybody was mature about it. It's important to keep these things confidential, so people just kept their mouths shut."

He added that "Not many. It was a very small group. Probably a smaller group than knew about the attack on bin Laden!"

On the rumors of Matthew Vaughn's speculated involvement with "Episode 7," he simple said that news would be coming soon.

"I would say you'll know soon, Horn said. "And it's got to come from Kathy Kennedy -- we don't have the company yet!"

In another interview the Hollywood Reporter, Oscar-winning makeup artist Rick Baker, who worked on the aliens in the original "Star Wars," said he "harbors a fantasy of returning to the universe he helped create."

Baker also discussed the special effects of the prequel trilogy and how computer generated graphics took moviegoers out of the reality of the original films.

"I think the problem that people have with the digital stuff is the problem I have: Just because you can do anything doesn't mean that you should," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "Instead of having a spaceship battle with three space ships they have 3000 space ships. Everything is so big and there's so much going on, you lose reality. It takes you out of it."

Early this Fall, Disney acquired the rights to the "Star Wars" film franchise and are planning to release "Star Wars: Episode 7" in the Summer of 2015, where it will likely go against Disney's "Avengers" sequel and the proposed "Justice League of America" film adaptation from Warner Bros Studios.
