It has been a year since the favorite anthology crime drama concluded in 2015 and fans are still waiting for the coming of "True Detective" Season 3. HBO even confirmed the continuation of the TV series back in August, but it looks like it is setback.

Allegedly, HBO is really eyeing to make "True Detective" Season 3. However, the network has no chance to push it through as it still has a lot on its plate. The show's creator Nic Pizzolatto, too, is busy doing other things that give him no time to focus on the TV series. Hence, these all lead that the Matthew McConaughey program is already canceled, as per Christian Times.

With these speculations, HBO's new programming chief Casey Bloys cleared that there is still hope for the coming of "True Detective" Season 3. "It is not dead, but there's no take on a third season yet," he said at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, as per Collider. But, it seems they have to look for a new writer to replace Nic Pizzolatto. It appears the 40-year-old screenwriter won't hold the responsibility of creating the show, although he will help with its development.

The two are said to be teaming up for a new drama for HBO, but details about the new show remains under wraps.

There are no concrete details about the teaming up of Nic Pizzolatto and Robert Downey Jr. The only thing known is the producer will handle doing the script while the 51-year-old actor will be the lead star. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new project might be based on the "Sherlock Holmes" protagonist's long-planned "Perry Mason" reboot. This lead to everyone thinks that Nic Pizzolatto cancels "True Detective" Season 3 for the Robert Downey Jr. HBO drama.
