Slow but steady was the way to go for NBC's newcomer, "Superstore," which brings back "Ugly Betty" and "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" star America Ferrera to primetime television. The 20-minute comedy debuted in November last year and slowly but steadily built its fanbase since then. The latest to come out from the network is that NBC has lengthened the recently launched "Superstore" season 2, which will now consist of 22 episodes.
"Superstore" season 2, which premiered last night, is now 22 episodes long thanks to NBC's order, The Wrap reports. The show's first season saw 13 episodes, plus one special episode following the Olympics last month. The show has been acclaimed by both the media and television critics and it's no surprise as the show is created by "The Office" writer, Justin Spitzer.
"Superstore" season 2 has been compared to "The Office" and "Parks and Recreation," and is even reminiscent of the slightly older "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" over at FOX, which is created by "The Office" alums Dan Goor and Michael Schur. These workplace comedies seem to be a fan favorite, as "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" even won two Golden Globe Awards following its first season.
As for "Superstore" season 2, fans are excited to see where Amy and Jonah are headed. Back in season 1, Ben Feldman's Jonah had a knack for getting on Amy's (America Ferrera) nerves, but it seems that it's all in the past in season 2.
There's also that one thing she failed to tell him while she was drunk on the floor of the big box store, and fans are hoping that "Superstore" season 2 would address that as well. Amy's still married, but will the show allow Amy and Jonah to finally get together?
Feldman remained tight lipped on the topic when he spoke with Business Insider, but the actor also credits NBC for the success of the show. He believes that the network has finally found its comedic identity in the shows that they currently have on air. "Superstore" season 2 airs every Thursday at 8 p.m.
