NBA Trade Rumors 2016: DeMarcus Cousins Possibly Headed To Toronto Raptors

Even if DeMarcus Cousins has failed to live up to his franchise player tag, the proper team for the Sacramento Kings to dance with is far from determined. The Toronto Raptors are now a suggested team in the mix but offering Jonas Valanciunas, Cory Joseph, and Norman Powell may not be enough to spark anything.

DeMarcus Cousins has proven his toughness and craft inside the shaded lane, something that makes him a prime target of multiple teams. But if given the choice, it would not be surprising to hear him prefer an established club with some NBA titles to show.

The Raptors did show their rise last season and adding Cousins can address the softness of their interior. Pairing with Kyle Lowry and DeMar Derozan could be something but the trio of Valanciunas, Joseph and Powell may not be enough.

Kings likely to wait and see until DeMarcus Cousin contract ends

The Kings are expected to hold on to DeMarcus Cousins for as long as they can. Hence, trades don’t seem feasible for now unless an established star player is offered in exchange.

Team owner Vivek Ranadive did reiterate his preference to keep DeMarcus Cousins but his patience on the Kings’ fortunes may walk a thin line. A trade could happen but it is expected to be something big in terms of players, picks and maybe money considerations.

The Kings could use the Raptor’s trio

Everyone knows that the Kings are in need of added manpower, particularly in the point guard position. Cory Joseph could back up the troubled Darren Collison though Valanciunas could be a soft replacement for the rough DeMarcus Cousins.

A logical decision may depend on how the Kings perform this season. First-year head coach Dave Joerger has a lot on his plate for now but will likely see first if DeMarcus Cousins can blend into his style. If all that fails, then trade talks may become more sensible.
