iPad Mini 5 Release Date, Latest News & Update: Will It Be The 9.7-inch iPad Pro Variant?

Apple is expected to unveil three iPad Pro variants in 2017 though the third one may be actually the iPad Mini 5 in disguise. This is with reference to the 9.7-inch tablet previously mentioned by KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

As covered in a previous post, the iPad Mini 5 is expected to come out with a totally new look. But more to that, there were previous rumors hinting at its demise since it may very well be integrated into the iPad Pro 2 lineup.

Technically only 2 iPad Pros coming

While that remains to be seen, the recent dish of Kuo has raised some questions on what kind of iPad Pro variants will be coming next year. There will reportedly be three variants offered. Aside from the 9.7-inch variant (expected to be the lowest end of the mix), there will also be 12.9-inch and 10.5-inch renditions, Mac Rumors reported.

Hence, it could be possible that the smallest of the lot is actually the iPad Mini 5. Moreover, the specs of the 9.7-inch tablet will bank on an A9X processor, 3 GB of RAM, 32 to 256 GB of internal storage, an 8 MP main camera, 1.2 MP front-facing shooter and 5,214 mAh battery.

For namesake, it could all be an inadvertent ploy to shy away from the independent nature of the iPad Mini 5 and downsize the product line of Apple. For now, this is up for confirmation.

iPad Mini 5 or iPad Mini Pro?

While we are on the subject, there is the small matter of the name. With the iPad Pro 2 a given, will the smaller version carry on or use something different like maybe an iPad Mini Pro? To somehow align it, it makes more sense to call the iPad Mini 5 an iPad Mini Pro.

The iPad Mini 5’s rumored specs are a notch less than the flagship tablet’s specs so that could be a possibility. Will the Apple Pencil be present in the iPad Mini 5/ iPad Mini Pro as well?
