Gaming is fun, but not when a 19-year old man in Hangzhou, China threatens to jump to his death if he's not given 6000 yuan for an extremely expensive microtransaction for an online game.
According to People's Daily, Zhou aspired to purchase a 6000 yuan ($960 USD) set of equipment for an online game. When he realized he would not be able to come up with the cash, Zhou asked his father for help. Zhou's father, 55 year-old sanitation worker, only makes $360 per month: Obviously he refused Zhou's request.
Zhou didn't take this well, so he devised a plan to change his father's mind. The young man climbed onto a second story platform above his house, threatening to jump to his doom if he could not have the money. According to the report, Zhou shouted:
"You don't give me money, I will not go on!"
Zhou's father wanted to save his son, so he scraped together 2000 yuan to offer him. Zhou refused his father's offer, as it wasn't enough. Amazingly, neighbors and on-lookers at the scene came together and managed to raise an extra 4000 yuan. Having reached his fundraising goal, the boy agreed to come down.
After coming down, Zhou took the money from his father and attempted to escape the scene. It's hard to imagine the complete arrogance of a man who would threaten to take his own life over microtransactions. Someone needs to set him straight because, if he doesn't change his priorities, he might very well stress his father to death.
