I know it's a little hard to believe, but there are still Sega hardware fans out there: Fans of the Genesis, the Dreamcast, and even the Saturn. There are those who in deepest, darkest recesses of their hearts dared to hope that Sega might one day retake it's rightful place on the gaming industry's throne!
Those people are crazy, but we have some good news for them. According to RetroCollect, Sega has announced plans to team with Japanese electronics retailer Enterbrain to make a series of Sega gaming-branded netbooks called the Sega Note.
There are four Sega Note models, ranging from "light" to "premium." (Check out the specs for a better idea.) No matter which one you buy, the Sega Note features four interchangible top plates to let users make it look like one of Sega's consoles: The Saturn, the Dreamcast, and the Sega MegaDrive, aka the Genesis. There's also a fourth bright blue, "simply Sega" cover.
The connection between the laptops and Sega's gaming history is purely cosmetic, though. While the computers are clearly meant to capitalize on gaming nostalgia, they won't come pre-loaded with any special software.
The laptops will run between ¥99,750 and ¥194,250, or $1075 and $2094 USD. And that's without the added cost of importing them from Japan. In other words, this only for hardcore Sega junkies.
