Mighty Switch Force 2 will be coming to the 3DS eShop in "the next few months," developer WayForward announced.
WayForward director Austin Ivansmith revealed the surprising sequel during the latest episode of Destructoid's Sup, Holmes show. Why a surprise? An updated version of Mighty Switch Force was just released as a Wii U eShop launch title in November. The original game was released December 2011 on the 3DS.
According to Ivansmith, the games of the "Mighty" series have almost nothing common, possibly teasing some larger mechanical shift. The original Mighty Switch Force evolved out of a sequel to Mighty Flip Champs, a similar 2D puzzle platformer for the PSP and DS. That said, he also noted that in MSF2, hero Patricia Wagon will trade in her police badge for a "surprise career change."
Ivansmith said that more information about the game will be coming in the next few weeks, so fans won't have to wait long for the full story.
