‘Overwatch’ Latest News & Update: Blizzard Introduces Dramatic Changes For Symmetra; New Heroes, Maps Coming

Blizzard recently provided a huge update about the character Symmetra in "Overwatch." More details about upcoming changes in the public test region (PTR), new characters and maps were also provided by the "Overwatch" game developer.

Reports state that "Overwatch" game director Jeff Kaplan stated that Blizzard will introduce significant changes in the way that Symmetra plays in the game. He said that they are observing the character, and think that the changes for Symmetra will need more than minor number tweaks. This means that it will take some time for them to apply the adjustments and make her ready to play. He cited that previous adjustments that they made on some "Overwatch" characters were only minor and could immediately be provided.

Kotaku revealed that Blizzard wanted to make Symmetra more viable in various situations, both in offense and defense. The "Overwatch" changes will not be introduced until at least mid-November 2016. By that time, the Symmetra adjustments will be added to the "Overwatch" PTR. Kaplan clarified that they did not wish to transform Symmetra into a different character. She will not become a healer, although many requested for related abilities, and will remain as a support figure.

Kaplan also talked about new heroes and maps in "Overwatch." He promised that more content will arrive soon, with one hero very close to becoming available. He shared that they are already playtesting the character across the entire company internally and the next one will most likely be ready in 2017. They currently have the hero prototype, which they are very pleased with. Blizzard is also reportedly testing a new "Overwatch" map, which should launch soon.

Blizzard also released a new PTR update for "Overwatch" on PC. It delivered new bug fixes, new voice lines and hero balances, among others. Some of the specific adjustments include a new voice alert for heroes who get hit by Ana's Nano Boost and a louder voice line for Hanzo's Dragonstrike with the Okami/Lone Wolf Skin. Adjustments to Widowmaker, Ana and Junkrat have also been made. PC gamers with an "Overwatch" game license in their Battle.net account will find the game PTR availale.
