Trademark Outs 'Deus Ex' Sequel 'Human Defiance' [RUMOR]

Square Enix has filed a European trademark for the name "Deus Ex: Human Defiance," potentially revealing the next entry in the franchise.

The trademark lists the title as relating to "computer games" and "video games," as well as a wide array of potential secondary media, including "printed matter," "comic books," "cartoons" and "feature film entertainment."

"Deus Ex: Human Revolution," the generally well-liked 2011 reboot, has brought the franchise back to prominance, prompting a film adaptation and now possibly a sequel. Though the trademark seems to be largely focussed on games, the name could potentially refer to the film: While the script is based on "Human Revolution," the director has said that the film will not tell the same story.

That said, our money's on a sequel. Without going into spoiler territory, the ending of "Human Revolution" does allow for a possible follow-up and, as a prequel, leaves plenty of room for a new game to connect the reboot to the original franchise.
