'God of War' Shows Off Multiplayer [TRAILER]

King Leonidas, the tragic Spartan leader from the “300” comic book and movies, is invading Kratos’s upcoming sequel, "God of War: Ascension." That free-flowing red cape, frighteningly tall helmet and irrationally long spear are all making their way into the game’s multiplayer mode, so long as you’re pre-ordering the game from, you guessed it, your friendly neighborhood Gamestop.

Unlike many pre-order bonuses, however, Leonidas’s equipment is not simply a reskinning. "God of War: Ascension’s" multiplayer will have players augmenting their statistics through armor customization and their play style through weaponry. This one, depending on your anticipation for the game, may actually be worth it.

In a trailer showcasing Leonidas’s look and weaponry he looks very much the movie’s Gerard Butler, which makes a whole lot of sense considering Gerard Butler is the only reason most of us know who Leonidas is.

But this isn’t Leonidas’s first gaming appearance, nor will it likely be his last. "300: March to Glory" released for the PSP in 2005, and Playstation gaming has, well, basically been exactly the same since. The game wasn’t all that good.

Worry not, non-Gamestop pre-order people, for pre-ordering the game anywhere will net you the Mythological Heroes pack, letting you lay dress up in Perseus, Orion, Achilles or Odysseus’s swag. Their weapons and armor will augment avatars in the same way.

Leonidas and the gang rain on Kratos’s parade when "God of War: Ascension" releases on March 12 for the PS3.

In addition, Sony put out at trailer showing off the game's "Horde" mode.
