‘StarCraft II’ Patch 3.7 Latest News & Updates: D.Va From 'Overwatch' To Arrive As Game Announcer

"StarCraft II" is about to get interesting with the arrival of D.Va from "Overwatch." The crossover project by Blizzard will have the mech pilot serve as a game announcer on "StarCraft II." It will be the first time that a character outside of the strategy game will participate in-game.

Blizzard announced that D.Va's presence in "StarCraft II" will be available as part of the cache of in-game goodies that BlizzCon participants and Virtual Ticket holders will receive. The "StarCraft II" package will feature the new D.Va announcer and portrait, among other things.

D.Va will soon join the previous announcers that Blizzard launched with "Starcraft II" Patch 3.7, namely Raynor, Abathur, Swann, Alarak and Kerrigan. She will be the first announcer outside of "StarCraft II."

PCGamer wrote that D.Va is not entirely unfamiliar with "StarCraft II," since she started her "Overwatch" story as a professional "StarCraft" gamer, having been ranked the top player in the world at only 16 years old. She remained undefeated for three years and became an esports superstar before joining "Overwatch."

In "Overwatch" lore, the omnic continued to adapt and subsequently disrupted the networks of MEKA, compelling the military to put pilots inside the mechs. The government was desperate to find suitable pilots and ultimately resorted to the top professional gamers.

D.Va, or Hana Song, 19 years old, was among those recruited and showed a lot of promise because of her gaming prowess and merciless nature. D.Va's mech features powerful Fusion Cannons that can fire and move her around the battlefield easily. She also has a Defense Matrix ability that can block shots and ultimates. Her ultimate, Self-Destruct, showcases that biggest explosion in the game.

Announcers is a reward type that was launched with "StarCraft II" Patch 3.7. The feature allows "StarCraft II" players to enjoy multiplayer games with the voices of favorite characters, regardless of the race being played.

D.Va's role as announcer in "StarCraft II" is expected to drive fans of both games to BlizzCon 2016. For "StarCraft II" fans who will not be able to attend BlizzCon 2016, they can purchase the D.Va announcer at a later date, albeit without the portrait.
