'Paragon' News & Updates: BloodRayne Lookalike Countess Rayne Joining The Game's Roster!

'Paragon' News & Updates: BloodRayne Lookalike Countess Rayne Joining The Game's Roster!

Epic Games' own free multiplayer online battle arena game, "Paragon," is still in open beta, and they're adding new playable characters. The latest addition to the game is a hero that looks suspiciously like Rayne from the "BloodRayne" action-adventure series.

In fact, the new "Paragon" character's name is a vampire that's even called Countess Rayne, and Kotaku believes that it's just a different wig because BloodRayne has red hair. Countess Rayne looks like an assassin-type character for the game, being able to deal a lot of damage to other heroes and characters in quick bursts. She also drains their health, allowing her to be a self-sufficient hero on the field.

According to the official Epic Games announcement, Countess Rayne's "Paragon" abilities include Blade Siphon, Shadow Slip, Dark Tide and Feast. Blade Siphon involves dealing damage in a small area around her, with a chance to regain health if she kills any enemies. Shadow Slip is a blink strike effect, teleporting to a target enemy unit and dealing damage; if it's an enemy minion, it's automatically executed. Dark Tide is a bigger AoE damage ability. Her ultimate, Feast, is a huge burst of damage to a hero that leaves Rayne completely immobile for the entirety of the attack.

"Paragon" currently has 16 heroes on its sci-fi and fantasy-inspired roster -- which seem to be subtle homages to other gaming franchises -- including Countess Rayne. The game is still trying to find its way as a true MOBA contender that might be the main reason why it still hasn't been moved out of open beta, which began in August.

Countess Rayne will debut on the next "Paragon" update to be released on October 25. "Paragon" is available for free on PC and PlayStation 4, although it's still in open beta. No word yet on when it will no longer be in beta phase.
