Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Release Date, News & Update: Executives Issue Immediate Recall, Insiders Say No Basis; Discounted Upgrades Offered In South Korea

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 recall is now said to be a shared responsibility between a few executives who are still in the dark about what had caused the fires and explosions with the device's batteries. Moreover, the upcoming Note 8 is still being delayed while the company tries to figure out what really happened with the Note 7. Lawsuits have also been filed in different countries apparently ordering the company to recall the product.

Recent reports have claimed that Samsung mobile chief DJ Koh allegedly believed that there was enough evidence to issue a speedy initial recall. Apparently, a supplier had claimed protrusions in the batteries. However, insiders allegedly believe that there was incomplete evidence to halt the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 in the market.

Moreover, there has been conflict in trying to find out about the seriousness of the issue. It is said that the issues with the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 starting a fire were fake. In the meantime, chief Koh was not the only one who was in on the quick recall.

Samsung heir and vice chairman Lee Jae-yong is also reportedly in favor of the hasty recall. It is said that his decision was made to push greater transparency and secrecy in the company. In addition, an unnamed executive also shared the same sentiments with Jae-yong and Koh, even mentioning a theory that the Samsung Galaxy Note 7's battery housing may have been too small for the power pack, Engadget reported.

Meanwhile, Samsung is reportedly handing out discounted smartphone upgrades to those who purchased faulty Samsung Galaxy Note 7 in the South Korean market. Moreover, Samsung is currently facing multiple charges in different countries for the handset's tendency to catch fire and explode. Hence, Note 7 owners may opt to receive the company's offer of a free upgrade to a Galaxy S7 handset and a half-price Note 8 a year later, Telegraph UK reported.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 owners have reportedly filed lawsuit claims to get compensation from the company for the hazards brought by the device. Those who filed also noted trouble of repairs and transferring of data. Additionally, a consumer class-action suit was also filed in the US and orders Samsung to repair, recall or replace the handsets. Watch Samsung permanently stops Galaxy Note 7 production - BBC News
