With three superhero series now available for streaming on Netflix, anticipation for "The Defenders" is now at an all-time high. The crossover miniseries, which will see Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Daredevil joining together, is expected to be released a few months after "Marvel's Iron Fist" becomes available on the streaming giant.
One of the most recent "The Defenders" news was the casting of "Alien" actress Sigourney Weaver in the show. According to Entertainment Weekly, Weaver will be playing the role of the miniseries' main villain. While the character's name has not been revealed yet, it is rumored that she will be appearing first in theaters in "Thor 3." The appearance of "The Defenders" character could be a turning point for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the Netflix shows were never as connected to the larger universe.
It looks like "Thor 3" will be full of female villains as the producers have also hired Oscar winner Cate Blanchett to play the film's own super villain, according to The Verge. This news concerning the production of "The Defenders" and "Thor 3" comes as Marvel has been aiming to diversify as it is also in pre-production stage for their first female superhero film "Captain Marvel."
You can watch "Thor 3" when the movie starts its theatrical run in North American cinemas on Friday, November 3, 2017. There has been no word from Netflix yet as to the exact release date for "The Defenders" but the streaming giant did say that it will premiere sometime around the second half of next year.
