More Than Just 'Zelda' Coming To The 3DS: New 'Mario Party' and 'Yoshi's Island' Inbound

Amid a flurry of release dates, gameplay footage and Wii U patch notes, during Wednesday's Nintendo Direct web cast, Nintendo managed to talk about a fair number of brand new games for the 3DS. While the big "The Legend of Zelda" announcement came last, fans of other well-known Nintendo franchises weren't left in the dark. Both "Mario Party" and "Yoshi's Island" are receiving new installments on the portable device.

A new "Mario Party" is coming sometime this Winter, featureing 81 new minigames across 7 different boards. Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo, made sure to point out that each board changes the way the game is played significantly, offering different win conditions and methods of beating your opponents. In one instance players are avoiding massive bullet bills while elsewhere they're racing in space ships. While one can expect mutli-player features in any "Mario Party" game, Nintendo did not say whether this one would feature online play.

As for that new "Yoshi's Island" title not much is known at this point, only that it's coming to the 3DS some day. Here's a screenshot to tide you over. That's a big egg, Yoshi.

Additionally, "Bravely Default: Flying Fairy," which has already made a splash in Japan, is on its way to North American and European markets in 2014, according to Nintendo's Bill Trinen. Also coming in 2014 is the latest in the "Professor" Layton" puzzle series. Trinen calls it the conclusion of the second Layton saga.
