'Criminal Minds' Season 12 News, Spoilers: Jane Lynch Returns After 8 Seasons; Plays Reid's Schizophrenic Mom

In this week’s “Criminal Minds” Season 12 titled “The Anti-Terrorism Squad”, the BAU will explore a bullying incident which may be linked to two family murders. The long running CBS procedural drama will also feature Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) after his reunion with his mother.

According to the synopsis of the upcoming “Criminal Minds” episode by The Futon Critic, the team will investigate the possible connection between two high school students who are both the only survivors after their respective families’ murders.

Also in this week’s episode of “Criminal Minds” Season 12, just when he thought his mom was getting better after she was diagnosed with schizophrenia last season, Reid will find out that she is not doing well. He gets a call from the Las Vegas police informing him that his mother was found wandering around in a casino. Rossi (Joe Mantegna), seeing that his friend seems distraught after the phone call, will encourage Reid to go to his mother even if he has to leave the case they are working on.

This development in Reid and his mother’s storyline is a possible set-up for the much awaited return of Jane Lynch as Diana in episode 11 of “Criminal Minds” Season 12. Spoilers have been indicating Lynch’s reprising the role of Reid’s mother for the first time in eight years. According to EP Erica Messer, Lynch’s return is for a heavy Reid story.

According to Messer in a TV Guide interview, the comeback of Lynch to “Criminal Minds” will be good and everybody is excited for it. She added that it was more important than ever for the actress to return because her character will be involved in a big story that will center on Reid.

All new episodes of “Criminal Minds” Season 12 air Wednesday nights on CBS.
