Klay Thompson’s Shooting Slump Due to Kevin Durant?

Klay Thompson’s Shooting Slump Due to Kevin Durant?

Klay Thompson has been on a shooting slump so far this season. For forty times, he has attempted beyond the arc (3 point line) missing thirty seven attempts. That's a 19.6 percent 3 point percentage, dropping his overall field goal percentage to 38.4 percent.

These statistics are considered off considering that the Golden State Warriors guard (Klay Thompson) is known to be one of the best in terms of shooting within the National Basketball Association (NBA) making 42 percent of his three point shots  in his initial five years stint in the league.

Speculations began swirling within the Golden State Warriors camp stating that Klay Thompson's shooting slump can be attributed to fellow Warrior team mate Kevin Durant. This was strongly denied by Thompson in an interview with ESPN's Ethan Sherwood Strauss on Monday.

When asked about his recent shooting slump, Thompson has dismissed speculations involving himself and Kevin Durant. Thompson was quoted saying "It has nothing to do with Kevin."

With that said, Thompson seems to be spot on with that statement. The addition of Kevin Durant has given Klay Thompson additional open looks than normal. Thompson was shooting 42.3 percent from beyond the arc in the preseason.

On the other hand, Golden State Warriors Head Coach, when discussing Klay Thompson's shooting slump, has suggested that Thompson finds himself forcing his shots not giving him a chance to find his rhythm within the game.

In their game against New Orleans Pelicans last night, the Golden State Warrior guard Klay Thompson broke out of his shooting slump to a degree. He posted 24 points on 11 out of 20 shooting which resulted in a win.

Last season, Thompson also got off to a sluggish start from the three point range (42%). His 276 (three pointers made) where the third highest single-season total in NBA history behind team mate Stephen Curry.
