The highly anticipated sequel to 300 is arriving, but it’s not arriving any faster. Warner Bros. has announced that the company has decided to shift the release date for 300: Rise of an Empire from this August to March of next year.
“Moving 300: Rise of an Empire to March 7 continues in the tradition of the first 300, and kicks off the Spring movie-going season in epic style. The film is on track to become all that audiences have come to expect from the franchise,” says Dan Fellman, president of Domestic Distribution, in a statement.
While nothing much has been mentioned in the press release, IGN points out that “300: Rise of an Empire was one of the movies affected by the recent financial woes of visual effects house Rhythm & Hues so it's likely the film simply wouldn't have been ready in time for August 2.”
The newest 300 movie takes the action to the sea, with Greek general Themistokles attempting to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war. The movie pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes, and Artemisia, the unforgiving commander of the Persian navy.
300: Rise of an Empire is set to star Eva Green and Sullivan Stapleton.
On a similar note, Warner Bros. has also altered the release date of Tom Cruise's sci-fi action film All You Need Is Kill to June 6, 2014. Select international markets, however, will receive the movie before its domestic release, starting the weekend of May 30 next year.
