Mazda Recall 2016: 70,000 Sports Cars Recalled In US For Faulty Sealing Rings

Mazda recalls almost 70,000 RX-8 sports cars in the U.S. from the 2004 through 2008 model years. According to Mazda, the sealing rings of the fuel pumps can crack when exposed to exhaust or engine heat. This can allow fuel to escape thereby increasing the risk of fire, U.S. regulators said.

The company's file so far does not have any reports that logs any injuries or fires. "The affected vehicles have fuel pump sealing rings that may deteriorate due to exposure to heat from the exhaust or engine pipe," the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a statement on its website.

Mazda Faces A Variety Of Car Problems In Different Car Models

Owners of this car model will be notified of the recall and dealers will replace the sealing rings and add more insulation to the fuel tank in order to keep heat away. Then, the owners will receive a second letter informing them when their cars will be scheduled for repairs, obviously free of charge.

Early September of this year, a report to recall 2.3 million vehicles worldwide because of rear door and engine problems, says The Wall Street Journal. This includes the Mazda 3, CX-3, as well as the CX-5 crossover SUVs. The issues range from the paint on the hydraulic arm of the rear door, to malfunction in the chip controlling diesel engines that could cause the engine to stop. The Japanese car maker faces recall after recall.

Mazda Logs Loss From Previous Air Bag Problem

The company also announced a recall previously due to an air bag problem with Tanaka that constituted a loss to the automaker of $365.6 million. In the name of good customer service, the company launched a recall information website where their customers can get updates on whether their vehicle is affected and what to do, says Fortune CEO Daily.
